The 11-day wine tour in Georgia offers our guests the opportunity to discover the oldest wine culture in the world. Georgia is a fascinating country with a rich culture and an impressive variety of wines.
On this wine expedition, you will have the opportunity to discover the traditional methods of winemaking that have been practiced in Georgia for centuries.
You will visit a Qvevr master and see for yourself how the famous Georgian wine amphorae, also known as qvevri, are made.

Our wine tour to Georgia begins with a three-hour city tour in Tbilisi, during which we explore the fascinating places and sights of the old town. If possible, we also visit the museum where artifacts are kept that testify to the history of wine in Georgia.
In the afternoon, after a light snack, our guests will have time to themselves until dinner. Dinner will be served at a first-class restaurant called “Barbarestan”.

Today’s route takes us to Bolnisi in Innen Kartli/Schida Kartli. First, we will visit the archaeological site “Gadachrili Gora”, where 8000-year-old grapevines and fragments of amphorae were found. These finds prove that viticulture was practised in Georgia as early as eight thousand years ago.
We continue to Bolnisi. More than 150 Swabians lived here before they were deported to Central Asia during the Second World War. Wine also played an important role for the Swabians.
The huge wine cellars of the half-timbered houses in Bolnisi, which are now inhabited by Georgians, bear witness to this. Most of them are wine-growers and have small family vineyards.
Today’s program includes a visit to one of these wineries, where we will taste local wines over lunch. Afterwards, we will continue to Tsalka, where we will spend the night. On the way, we will make a detour to the Alexander distillery, which produces cognac.

Today we will have a wonderful drive in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus in southern Georgia, without wine tasting, but with many impressive experiences. Two picturesque mountain lakes, Paravani and Saghamo, offer wonderful photo opportunities, which we will take advantage of.
In the afternoon we arrive in Vardzia. After a refreshment, we will visit a treasure of Georgian culture and history, the 12th-century cave city of Vardzia.

The interesting village of Chachkari is located in the immediate vicinity of the cave city and should definitely be visited on a wine tour of Georgia. Here, wine presses carved directly into the rock, known as satsnakheli, have been preserved to this day. In addition, a vine grows in this village that has reached the ripe old age of over 300 years.
For lunch, we will travel to the village of Mzianeti, where a family makes a special type of cheese in the traditional way. On the way, we will stop in Aspindza to visit a small brewery where beer is stored in wine amphorae.
For dinner and wine tasting, we have chosen an excellent restaurant in the Rabathi fortress. Our host, Mr. Giorgi Natenadze, produces local wines and can tell us a lot about the special features of South Georgian wines.

Western Georgia is also a very attractive destination for a wine tour of Georgia. After breakfast and a visit to the Rabathi fortress, we will travel to Kutaisi.
On the way to Imereti, we will stop at the famous resort of Bordzhomi, where we can take a break and walk in Bordzhomi Park. Here you will have the opportunity to taste the mineral water from the spring.
In the late afternoon, we arrive in Kutaisi, where we will have dinner at a typical restaurant.

It is time to taste the wines of Western Georgia. Our destination today is a charming family winery in Martvili, run by winemaker Ms. Keto Ninidze. After visiting the Martvili Monastery and a picturesque gorge, we will visit Ms. Keto Ninidze for lunch and wine tasting.
After lunch, we will return to Kutaisi, where our guests will have free time to explore the city on their own. If you wish, you can also visit the Gelati Cathedral from the 12th to 13th century.

Today’s destination on our wine tour of Georgia takes us to the mountainous region of Racha, which is known for its natural beauty and wines. Racha, which also includes the small town of Oni, is the only mountainous region in Georgia where wine is grown.
For this reason, it is a very interesting destination for our Wine Tour Georgia. We will cross the Nakerala Pass and make stops at Shaori Lake and Nikortsminda Church before arriving in Ambrolauri.
Here we will have lunch with a family and taste the local Khvanchkara wine. After that, we will continue to the Melitoni winery.
Dinner and overnight stay will be in Utsera in Oni.

After a somewhat longer drive, we will reach the region of Schida Kartli. In the Ateni Valley, we will find a fascinating church with unique wall paintings. After visiting the church, we will move into our accommodation, which is located right next to the church.
The accommodation is a winery and is run by Mr. Nika Vacheishvili, a former Minister of Culture. Dinner and a wine tasting will be hosted by Nika Vacheishvili.

Before we visit the well-known family winery Jagos Wines in the village of Chardakhe and taste the local “natural wines”, we make a detour to the ruins of the ancient city of Uplistsikhe from the 4th to 6th century.
Afterwards, we will continue our wine tour of Georgia to Kakheti, the most famous wine region of Georgia. In the evening, we will reach the charming town of Telavi in Kakheti.

We will visit the village of Vardisubani and meet the Qvevri master, Mr. Zaza, one of the few people who still make Georgian wine amphorae, known as Qvevri, in the traditional way. Zaza will show us his small workshop and give us many fascinating insights into how Qvevri are made. We will also have the opportunity to taste wine and tschacha, a Georgian brandy.
Afterwards, we will continue our wine tour to Akhmeta, where we will visit the charming family winery “Lagvani”. Here we will have our lunch break with wine tasting and lunch.
In between, we will visit the Ikalto monastery. In the 12th and 13th centuries, it was an important academy where, among other things, winemaking was taught.
In the evening, we will return to Tbilisi and enjoy dinner at a typical Georgian restaurant.
