Overview

If you are looking for a mountain tour to the beautiful summit of Laila, our Laila climbing tour is an excellent choice. Laila, also known as Lahili, is a wonderful destination for anyone who enjoys hiking in the mountains.

At just over 4,000 metres, it is not only the highest point in the Svaneti range, but also the largest and most impressive glacier massif in the range. It is truly wonderful to see that year after year, more and more people are being inspired by this mountain, not only Georgians but also visitors from all over the world.

The tour lasts for a total of seven days, with two days planned for travel to and from Tbilisi and five days for climbing the mountain. Of course, we have also planned a reserve day for you.

In order to be able to acclimatise properly, we normally recommend that our guests spend three to four days hiking in the surrounding mountains before climbing the mountain. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking natural surroundings and prepare for the adventure ahead.

We can organise equipment such as ice axes, ropes, harnesses and helmets locally. However, guests are also welcome to bring their own. During the tour, you will be accompanied by Packhorses to the base camp, so you only have to carry a daypack.

Note: Our trips can also be booked as individual trips.

Highlights

  • Village of Tskhumari, Mestia, Laila glacier and summits

Itinerary

Day 1.Arrival, meeting and transfer to Svaneti

Our Laila Climbing tour starts with a drive to Svaneti. As Svaneti is located in the west of Georgia, we like to recommend our guests to fly to Kutaisi instead of Tbilisi.

From Kutaisi, we reach Svaneti in 4-5 hours, while the driving time from Tbilisi takes almost twice as long.

Our first stop is the village of Tskhumari, which is the starting point for the route to the base camp. There we will have a short rest and check our equipment to make sure that everything is in top condition.

Travel time: From Tbilisi about 8 hours, from Kutaisi about 5 hours.

Meals: Breakfast / snack / dinner

Accommodation: Tskhumari / in the guesthouse

View of the Caucasus

Day 2.To the base camp (at 2500 m)

The route to the base camp is breathtakingly beautiful and offers impressive views of the Greater Caucasus. Deep gorges and picturesque Georgian villages clinging to the mountainsides give today’s tour a very special charm.

In addition, a magnificent photo opportunity awaits you today in the form of the highest mountain in the Caucasus, Mount Elbrus. After crossing a pass, we descend into a gorge that extends right to the foot of the glacier of Mount Laila. Here we set up our tent camp.

Day 4.To the summit

Today is the highlight of our Laila Climbing Tour, because it is the summit day. The day starts quite early. We get up at 04:00, have our breakfast, and at around 05:00 we set off for the summit.

After about 3 hours we reach the glacier at the summit, where we equip ourselves with crampons and secure ourselves with ropes. We need about 10-11 hours in total for the ascent to the summit and the return journey. We return to the camp in the late afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast / packed lunch / dinner

Accommodation: basic camp / in a tent
