The 14-day photo tour Georgia – ‘Georgia in Pictures’ – is one of our photography tours in Georgia and offers both professional and amateur photographers,who plan to travel in Georgia  the ideal opportunity to explore this unique region with their own camera. Georgia is an attractive destination for photographers due to its diverse landscapes and cultural richness.

From breathtaking landscapes and fascinating portraits to impressive architecture and everyday life, there are numerous subjects to discover on our journey. The top destinations for photographers in Georgia are in the programs also.

During this photo expedition, we will take you to the top destinations for photographers in Georgia and enable you to get to know Georgia through the lens of your camera. Our group is led by a professional photographer who knows exactly where, when and what is best photographed.

If you are a beginner in photography and feel insecure, our guide will be happy to help you with your photographic challenges. The best time to travel is from mid-May to the end of October.

Itinerary

Day 1.Tbilisi – Gareji – Sighnaghi | The Georgian Steppes

Our photo tour Georgia starts with a trip to the wine region of Kakheti. Our first destination is the picturesque Davit Gareji Steppe in the far east of Georgia. After visiting the Gareji Monastery, we continue to the enchanting town of Sighnaghi. From here you have an impressive view of the famous Alazani Plain and the majestic Caucasus Mountains.

In the evening, we will visit an idyllic winery that offers numerous photo opportunities. Of course, we will take the opportunity to taste Georgian wines and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 2.Sighnaghi – Kabali – Tbilisi | daily life at the cattle market

Early in the morning, we will set off for the picturesque cattle market of Kabali. Every Sunday, there is a lively trade here. Traders and visitors from near and far flock here to buy and sell animals of all kinds, from turkeys to water buffalo, as well as food, clothing, furniture, spare parts and tools. This market is a photographer’s paradise. Therefore, today is a special day for the photo tour Georgia.

Activities start early in the morning, so we will leave our accommodation at around 6:30 am. After an hour’s drive, we will arrive at Kabali, where we will spend about 3 hours. After that, we will continue to Tbilisi, where we will spend the night.

Day 3.Tbilisi – Stepantsminda | the Georgian Military Road

Today’s journey takes us along the famous Georgian Military Road  Stepantsminda (1,740 m) in the Greater Caucasus, offering plenty of opportunities for taking photographs. We have the chance to admire the architecture of old castles and churches, enjoy the breathtaking scenery and experience the hospitality of the Georgians.

On today’s tour, we will visit the 7th-century Jvari Church and the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Ananuri Castle at the Jinvali Dam is also worth visiting.

Truso Valley

Day 4. Stepantsminda | discover the mountains around Stepantsminda

Today we start the day early to photograph the majestic Mount Mkinvari at sunrise. The Trinity Church, set against the stunning backdrop of the mountain, is one of the most famous images in the country.

After breakfast, we first make our way to Trinity Church at an altitude of 2200 metres. Afterwards, the journey takes us to the Truso Valley, where we capture the picturesque landscape, old village ruins and towers. We will have a picnic lunch at a nunnery.

In the afternoon, we will return to Kazbek Region /  Stepantsminda and have time to enjoy the surroundings.

Day 5.Stepantsminda – Gori | wine and history

On the journey from Stepantsminda to Gori, the landscape changes. Gori, the birthplace of Stalin, is an important city in the Kertli region. The highlight of the day is a visit to the ancient cave city of Uplistsikhe from the 6th to 4th century BC. In Gori, we will spend the night in a charming family hotel and winery in the Ateni Valley.

Day 6.Gori – Chiatura - Kutaisi |Soviet warrens

Today promises to be a particularly exciting day of our photo tour Georgia, as we explore the charming town of Chiatura in the region of Imereti. Chiatura is a small town that impresses with its many Soviet buildings and cable cars. Manganese was mined here as early as the 19th century and this tradition continued during the Soviet era, resulting in a well-preserved infrastructure.

The old cable car stations from the 1950s and 1960s are particularly fascinating and offer wonderful photo opportunities. Various buildings and monuments also invite you to take pictures. In the evening we continue to Kutaisi. On the way we stop at the small chapel Katskhis Sveti.

Day 7.Kutaisi - Tskaltubo | Lost Places in Tskaltubo

What fascinates our guests most on photo trips in Georgia is the abandoned city of Tskaltubo.

It is an absolute must for all guests who take part in a photo trip to Georgia. In the morning, we explore the city of Kutaisi and make a detour to the famous farmers’ market.

Here we find abandoned guesthouses that have been reclaimed by nature and there is much to discover. The visual impressions are overwhelming. In the evening we return to Kutaisi and stay overnight.

Day 8.Kutaisi – Mestia | The Alpine World of Svaneti

photo tour Georgia would be incomplete without Region Svaneti. This mountainous region is not only very popular with photographers, but also with mountaineers, hikers, ethnologists and those interested in culture.

The highest and most important peaks in the Caucasus are located in this region. The characteristic 900-year-old defensive towers and chapels with their wall paintings make Svaneti unique.

The highlight of today is a boat trip on the Enguri reservoir. In the evening we reach Mestia and after dinner we capture the evening atmosphere of the village and the surrounding mountains on our photos.

Day 9.Mestia – Ushguli – Mestia | the highest village in Europe

Today we take a day trip to Village Ushguli, a picturesque village located at an altitude of 2,200 m at the foot of the highest mountain in Georgia, Shkhara. Ushguli is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a wealth of fascinating photo opportunities.

After a tour together, our guests will have free time to explore the area individually and capture their personal favourite motifs. In the evening, we will return to Mestia.

Day 10.Mestia

We will spend the whole day in Mestia again and enrich our photo tour Georgia with breathtaking pictures of the mountain landscape. Our guests will have free time to explore the area on their own until the late afternoon.

In the evening, we will visit a hospitable family in the village of Latali. There we will organise an evening of cooking and enjoy traditional Swanean specialities.

Day 11.Mestia - Kutaisi | in Kutaisi

Today we leave Svaneti and drive to Kutaisi. Here we have the opportunity to explore the city and experience the atmosphere of Georgia’s second largest city. Among other things, we will visit the lively farmers’ market, where we can capture impressive images of everyday life.

Day 13. Tbilisi | capital of Georgia

While we explore the city with our cameras, we will also learn many interesting facts and stories about the city. In the evening, a festive farewell dinner will be held at a traditional Georgian restaurant.
