Wine Tour in Georgia

Our wine tour Georgia begins with a drive to the picturesque region of Kakheti, which extends east of Tbilisi and is considered the most renowned wine region in the country.

The route takes us over the Gombori Pass to the charming village of Vardisubani, where we will have an exciting encounter with Mr Zaza. He is one of the few craftsmen who still make Georgian wine amphorae, known as Qvevri, using traditional methods.

Zaza will show us his modest workshop and give us fascinating insights into the art of Qvevri production. We will have the opportunity to taste wine and chacha, the Georgian schnapps, at his place.

We continue to Akhmeta, where we visit the charming family winery ‘Lagvani’. A relaxing lunch break with wine tasting and a delicious lunch awaits us here.

After visiting the Lagvani winery, we will visit a monastery in Ikalto, which housed a prestigious academy in the 12th and 13th centuries where, among other things, the art of winemaking was taught.

Afterwards, we will continue to Telavi, where we will have time at leisure until dinner. Dinner and wine tasting will take place at another family winery in the village of Kondoli.

Not far from Telavi, one of the most renowned wineries in the country, the Shumi winery, awaits us. Our first stop today is the winery, where we can visit a very interesting wine museum.

The beautiful garden, where a variety of Georgian and international grape varieties are planted, is also worth seeing. After we have tasted the wines on site, we continue our journey to the village of Shilda.

In the family winery ‘Chubini’ in Shilda, we will be welcomed by a young and successful winemaker who will give us interesting insights into his business. Lunch and wine tasting in a cosy atmosphere await us here.

The programme also includes a visit to the impressive 17th-century Gremi castle ruins.

At our meeting with the wine researcher and winemaker Mr Giorgi, we will learn exciting stories about Georgian wine culture and have the opportunity to taste various local wines.

In the village of Chardakhi, a fascinating family winery run by Mr Jago awaits us. He has been producing so-called natural wine for many years and is known for his unique wines.

Of course, on the wine tour Georgia we won’t miss the opportunity to visit the winery and enjoy these special wines during a lunch and wine tasting.

We will use the time between lunch and dinner for an excursion to the ancient city of Uplistsikhe. We will return to the ‘Naperi’ family winery for dinner and wine tasting at around 7:00 pm. After that, we will continue on to Tbilisi.

Today is an extremely fascinating day of our wine tour Georgia on the programme. We will travel to the place where the history of wine literally originated. We will visit the archaeological site near the town of Bolnisi, known as ‘Gadachrili Gora’, where the oldest wine artefacts in human history were found.

In addition to two family wineries, we will also have the opportunity to visit a wine cellar near a monastery where the wine is made by the monks who live there.

If time permits, we will visit the ancient ruins of Dmanisi, a valley once inhabited by Stone Age hominids.

In the evening, we return to Tbilisi and end our exciting wine tour Georgia.
