Travel Programme

Overview

In addition to our 11-day hiking tour of Svaneti, we have also developed a shorter 7-day programme for trekking in Svaneti, which is intended for guests who do not have enough time for a longer hiking in Svaneti.

As with the 11-day hiking tour in Svaneti, a support vehicle is also available here to transport the luggage to the next accommodation. This means that our hikers only have to carry a day backpack.

Most of our accommodation is in traditional guesthouses in the villages of Svaneti, where delicious food and hot showers await us every day.

Here, guests will have the opportunity to experience the everyday life of the Svan people up close and to visit the famous Svan towers and the beautiful paintings in the chapels. The guide will tell us a lot about the culture and traditions of the Svan people.

The best time to hike is from the end of June to mid-October. You can find out more about the best time to travel to Georgia HERE.

Please note: This tour can also be booked as an individual trip with or without a tour guide. Tips and information for preparing and following up on hikes in Svaneti on your own can be found here.

Highlights

  • Becho Valley, Shdugra Waterfall, Bakh Pass, Etseri
  • Mestia Museum, M. Khergiani House Museum in Mestia
  • Mulakhi, river crossing with horses near Hadishi village

Itinerary

Day 1.Meeting and trip to Becho

The trekking in Svaneti begins with the journey. The route from Tbilisi to Svaneti is quite long and usually takes 7 to 8 hours. Guests who arrive in Kutaisi shorten the travel time by about 4 hours.

In the evening we arrive at our cosy accommodation in Becho. Due to the long journey from Tbilisi to Becho, we recommend that our guests consider travelling by plane to Kutaisi, as Kutaisi is much closer to Svaneti.

Day 2.Becho | along the wild Dolra River to the Shdugra Waterfall

For acclimatisation, we start with a shorter stage to the Shdugra waterfall. This waterfall originates directly at the Ushba glacier and is an absolute highlight in the valley.

The route leads through a picturesque forest along the wild Dolra. The walking time for the round trip is about 3 to 4 hours and can be extended as you like.

After a 40-minute drive, we arrive at the administrative centre of Upper Svaneti: the charming town of Mestia. Here we will explore some attractions that are also an interesting destination for round– and photo tours.

The backdrop with the mountain Tetnuldi and the wild rivers is extremely charming, attractive and truly unique. In the village of Chvabini, we will be treated to delicious Swatetian dishes by our hosts. A wonderful opportunity to get to know the local cuisine.

After a little refreshment at a kiosk, we continue our hike in Svaneti and reach our destination after another two hours: Adishi, an old, small and remote village at the foot of Mount Tetnuldi. An enchanting place welcomes us.

We will have lunch here and enjoy the view of the famous Adischi Glacier and the surrounding five-thousand-metre peaks.

Our accommodation awaits us in the dilapidated village of Khalde, which has a fascinating history. Khalde resisted the Russian occupation in the 19th century.
