Svaneti

Picturesque Svaneti is located in the northwestern part of Georgia, right at the foot of the majestic Greater Caucasus. The region consists of two valleys, the valley of the Enguri River and the valley of the Tskhenistskali River. The region is geographically divided into two parts, called ‘Upper Svaneti’ and ‘Lower Svaneti’. Between them lies the breathtaking Svaneti mountain range, with its impressive passes and hiking trails.

The region’s unspoilt forests, mountains, glaciers and the highest peaks in the Greater Caucasus give it a unique charm that makes it one of the most popular destinations for hiking tours in Georgia. Here you will find also unique villages with medieval architecture, fortified towers and chapels adorned with unique wall paintings.

Tusheti

The mountainous region of Tusheti is located in north-eastern Georgia in the impressive mountains of the Greater Caucasus. Thanks to its breathtaking landscape, ethnography and nature, the region is a very popular destination for guests from all over the world. Even the drive to Tusheti over the Abano Pass, which is up to 3000 metres high, is a real highlight and offers an adventurous journey that you won’t forget in a hurry.

This beautiful area is home to the Tusheti National Park, which covers an area of approximately 71,341 km². In addition to various activities such as off-read tours, horse riding and cycling tours, the place is also a real highlight for hikers. The traditional villages, wild gorges and picturesque mountains make hiking tours an unforgettable experience. Here you have the wonderful opportunity to experience the majestic Caucasus in all its natural splendour.

Stepantsminda / Kazbeg

The mountain region of Stepantsminda or Kazbeg in the north of the country, at an altitude of 1500 metres, is a very special and well-known hiking destination in Georgia. The beautiful Trinity Church from the 14-15 th century and the impressive Mount Kazbeg, which rises over 5000 metres into the sky, are absolute highlights of the country.

The magnificent route to Kazbeg, also known as the Military Road of Georgia, takes us through the picturesque Jvari Pass to this diverse region. The impressive valleys and mountains around the Kazbegi National Park offer you the opportunity to explore several different hiking routes of varying difficulty.

The picturesque Truso and Sno valleys are great for easy day trips, where you can admire the 300-year-old villages and the breathtaking mountain scenery in the Chaukhi massif. Near the village of Gveleti, there are two particularly beautiful waterfalls that are well worth seeing.

Besides these wonderful day trips, you will also have the opportunity to explore a breathtaking route to the 3600-metre-high base camp at the foot of Kazbegi Mountain. The well-known and adventurous trekking route to Khevsuretia, accompanied by pack horses, starts from Stepantsminda.

National parks of Georgia

Georgia’s national parks offer you a wonderful opportunity to discover the country’s nature and landscapes on hiking tours. We warmly invite you to take a look at some of them:

• Bordjomi-Kharagauli National Park

Located in southern Georgia, Bordjomi-Kharagauli National Park, in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, was established in 1995 and is the most visited park in the country.

It covers beautiful regions, namely Imereti, Javakheti. The park covers an area of approximately 107 square kilometres and is home to an impressive variety of rare plants and animals. With a total of twelve different hiking routes, it offers opportunities for activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, horse riding and mountain biking. The routes are very well marked and in excellent condition. Here you can take wonderful one-day to one-week hiking tours and spend the night in cosy huts or in tents.

• Lagodekhi National Park

The beautiful Lagodekhi National Park is located in the far northeast of Georgia, on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus. The diversity of flora and fauna in this park is truly amazing, as it encompasses a large number of climatic and landscape zones.

Here you can admire the breathtaking beauty of the Caucasian mountains and the endemic Caucasian stone goat. With a little luck, you may even spot the famous Caucasian red deer. A special highlight is the endemic plant Mlokosevich peony (Paeonia daurica), which should definitely be mentioned in relation to the vegetation.

The infrastructure and hiking trails in Lagodekhi National Park are also in very good condition. There are so many different places of interest where you can organise hiking and horse riding trips. Of course, cosy huts are also available for guests who do not like camping.
