Overview

The trip to Kakheti extends from Gareja to Telavi and covers the entire region. The region is particularly known for its wine culture and varieties and is therefore considered the wine centre of Georgia. However, it is not only wine and culinary delights that make the region attractive to our guests.

Kakheti is home to numerous historical monuments and attractions, including the Gareji Monastery, the town of Sighnaghi, the Alaverdi Monastery and Gremi Castle, all of which are important components of Georgian culture.

The unique scenic beauty of the fertile Alazani plain, set against the majestic backdrop of the Greater Caucasus, is a popular motif for photographic trips in Georgia.

During our two-day trip to Kakheti, our guests have the opportunity to explore the region extensively and enjoy the cultural, scenic and ethnological highlights of Kakheti.

Itinerary

Day 1.Gareja – Sighnaghi | The Steppes of Georgia

The journey begins with a trip to the border with Azerbaijan. We will travel through a picturesque semi-desert to the cave monastery of Davit Gareja. According to legend, the monastery was founded in the 6th century by Davit, one of the 13 Azerbaijani fathers who preached here.

Here you will have the opportunity to visit the monastery and admire the colourful frescoes from the 10th to 13th century. For lunch, we will stop at a cosy restaurant in the village of Udabno.

Afterwards, we will continue to Sighnaghi in Kakheti, where we can enjoy a relaxing walk through the city.

Day 2.Sighnaghi - Tbilisi

After breakfast, we will take a walk around the town and explore the impressive city wall of Sighnaghi. From here, we will have a breathtaking view of the Alazani plain and the majestic Greater Caucasus.

On our round trip, we will stop at the nunnery in Bodbe, where the Georgian enlightener Saint Nino found her final resting place. On the way to Telavi, we will visit the palace of the Georgian prince Chavchavadze in Tsinandali. A wine tasting and a snack await us at the nearby Shumi winery.

Afterwards, we will continue to the Alaverdi Monastery and over the Gombori Pass back to Tbilisi.
